"Geography Matters" Video Competition

Video Competition Overview

The Association of American Geographers is pleased to announce its "Geography Matters" video competition as we prepare for the 2012 AAG Annual Meting, which will be held in New York, New York from February 24-28. We are looking for videos that highlight the difference that geography has made in: your life, your career, your community, the world, etc. We hope that geographers will use this competition as an outlet to enlighten others on the importance that geography has in our world today. Please direct any questions to videos@aag.org.

General Rules and Video Criteria

*AAG members and non-members alike are welcome to enter

*Entrants must be at least 18 years old

*Entrants may submit one video

*Parental consent is needed if children under the age of 18 are filmed

*Videos do not need to be professionally produced

Videos must:

*Range from one to three minutes (no longer than three minutes)

*Be original work of entrant. They must not infringe on any third party rights or contain any names, logos, audio material, seals, etc. without permission (unless they are your own)

*Show how geography has made a difference in: your life, your career, your community, the world, etc.

Uploading and Submitting Videos

*Videos must be uploaded to YouTube (please upload your video to the "Nonprofits/Activism" category, and select the "Creative Commons License")

*To submit the video into the competition, an email must be sent to videos@aag.org including:

*The video link (not embedded)

*A written description of the video (50 words or less)

*A title for the video

*Permission statement: "I have obtained all necessary permissions from parties involved / featured in this video to use this video in connection with the AAG video competition."

*The entrant's: name, address, e-mail, and contact telephone number



Judging

*AAG Staff will use the number of "likes" that your video receives on YouTube along with AAG criteria (creativity and relevance to the field of geography) to select the winning video. This means that the earlier you submit your video, the more time you will have for people to "like" it. The last day for submissions (and voting) is January 14, 2012.

*The winner will be awarded $250, a complimentary New York meeting registration, a free one-year AAG membership, and recognition at the 2012 AAG Annual Meeting.
